Hydraulic Pump Repairs

All mechanical parts would need maintenance and hydraulic pumps are not an exemption to the story. Needless to say, doing the correct maintenance will ensure that the mechanical products will be kept in good condition. Or else, doing incorrect maintenance might just result in various problems that might open more problems in the future. With this in mind, you must do preventive maintenance in order to prevent these unnecessary and costly failures.

Doing preventative maintenance for hydraulic pumps will require a series of steps to be done efficiently and effectively. It’s warned that either the repair or maintenance procedures must be carried out only after the pump has been disconnected from the power supply. The following are few of the things that are related to preventive maintenance of a hydraulic pump.

Well first things first, you have to check the level of the hydraulic fluid. The proper oil level should be from top of fill hole when all of the wrenches are retracted. Then, you need to check the oil level on a regular basis for the reservoir. Then after, you have to drain, flush and lastly, refill the reservoir using high-grade hydraulic oil after a certain period of time.

Then, the cleaning maintenance would be a critical procedure for the effective maintenance of the pump. When doing this step, you have to seal all of the unused couplers with thread protectors and at the same time, keep all connections of hoses free from grime and dirt and the outer surface of the pump should be free from dirt whenever possible as well. Besides that, the equipment that’s connected to the pump should be kept clean at all times.

Lastly, you have to drain and ensure that the reservoir has been flushed. Prior to the removal of the pump interior from the reservoir, you have to clean the exterior of the pump. There are a couple of things that have to be done.

Number 1. Remove 10 screws that are fastened to the motor and pump assembly to a reservoir. You have to ensure that you are not damaging the bump or gasket the pressure or filter regulating valves when you are lifting the motor or pump off the reservoir.

Number 2. Clean the interior of the reservoir and then, fill it with suitable flushing oil.

Number 3. Put the pump and the motor assembly back to the reservoir and secure it using two machine screws that are assembled on the opposite corners of housing. Once done, you have to run the pump for few minutes. And then, it has to be disconnected to the pump and motor assembly and drain and clean the interior of the reservoir. Finally, you have to fill the reservoir with hydraulic oil. Put the pump and the motor assembly with a gasket on the reservoir and thread again the screws that were removed.

Aside from the steps mentioned the oil has to be added to the reservoir. But before you do this, the wrench should be retracted and power supply has to be disconnected. If you don’t have experience in doing such, then make sure to call in the pros.
